ECOTHERAPY PERTH

Healing Through Nature-Based Counselling

Ecotherapy in Perth offers a gentle, grounding approach to counselling, held in natural outdoor settings. The connection between humans and nature is deep and instinctive. Spending time outdoors can help calm the nervous system, lift mood, and create space for reflection.

Nature-based counselling combines the therapeutic depth of talk-based therapy with the restorative benefits of being outdoors. Ecotherapy sessions are offered in Perth’s northern suburbs, providing a supportive environment where healing can unfold naturally, without the constraints of a traditional therapy room.

WHAT IS ECOTHERAPY?

Reconnecting With Nature to Support Emotional Wellbeing

Ecotherapy is grounded in the understanding that our emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing is closely connected to the natural world. Rather than separating therapy from everyday life, ecotherapy invites you to engage with your surroundings, noticing movement, sounds, textures, and sensations as part of the therapeutic process.

In ecotherapy sessions, I support you to:

  • Tune into your senses and bodily awareness

  • Slow down and regulate stress responses

  • Gain insight through reflection and conversation

  • Develop a deeper connection with yourself and your environment

Ecotherapy can support a wide range of emotional and life challenges, including stress, anxiety, grief, life transitions, burnout, and emotional overwhelm.

Why Choose Ecotherapy?

For many people, traditional face-to-face counselling can feel intimidating or restrictive. Sitting indoors, making constant eye contact, or feeling confined to a therapy room may make it harder to open up.

Ecotherapy offers an alternative. Walking or sitting in nature often feels less formal and more grounding, allowing conversations to flow more naturally. Nature provides calm, space, and gentle movement, which support emotional regulation and deeper therapeutic engagement.

Ecotherapy may be especially supportive if you:

  • Feel more at ease outdoors than indoors

  • Find it easier to talk while walking or moving

  • Feel overwhelmed or overstimulated in enclosed spaces

  • Want to incorporate gentle movement into your wellbeing routine

ECOTHERAPY OPTIONS IN PERTH

I offer two ecotherapy formats in Perth’s northern suburbs. Both provide professional counselling in natural settings, tailored to different needs and preferences.

Walk & Talk Therapy

Walk & Talk Therapy takes place while walking through a local park or green space. This approach blends the benefits of gentle physical movement with reflective conversation and therapeutic support.

Many people find that walking side by side feels less confrontational than sitting face-to-face, making it easier to speak openly. Movement can also help regulate emotions, reduce anxiety, and support clarity of thought.

Sessions are guided at your pace, with breaks as needed, as there is no pressure to keep moving or perform in any way.

Therapy in the Park

Therapy in the Park is designed for those who feel more at ease in nature or who may benefit from a gentle, accessible outdoor setting. Sessions take place in a quiet, private location where we can slow down and engage in counselling surrounded by the calming presence of nature.

This format offers a peaceful alternative to traditional indoor therapy rooms, creating space for reflection, grounding, and emotional processing in a supportive and natural environment.

IS ECOTHERAPY RIGHT FOR YOU?

Ecotherapy may be a good fit if:

  • You feel more grounded and relaxed outdoors

  • Traditional counselling settings feel too formal or confronting

  • You enjoy gentle movement or nature-based reflection

  • You are navigating stress, life transitions, or emotional overwhelm

  • You want a more embodied, holistic approach to counselling

This approach can also suit parents seeking flexibility, such as attending sessions with a baby in a pram, or individuals who find nature particularly supportive to their wellbeing.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ECOTHERAPY SESSION

Your first session will take place in my Girrawheen office. This allows us to explore your goals, discuss any concerns, and assess whether Walk & Talk Therapy or Therapy in the Park is the right fit for you.

If ecotherapy feels suitable for you, subsequent sessions will take place in a nearby natural setting. Sessions run for 75–90 minutes and combine therapeutic conversation with the calming presence of nature.

There is no expectation to talk continuously or to walk at a particular pace; each session is guided by your comfort, your needs, and your readiness.

HOW CAN ECOTHERAPY SUPPORT YOU?

Ecotherapy in Perth offers a unique blend of emotional support and nature-based healing. Over time, ecotherapy may help you:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety

  • Feel more grounded and present

  • Improve emotional regulation

  • Gain insight and clarity

  • Reconnect with yourself and your values

  • Experience counselling in a way that feels natural and accessible

FAQ

What is ecotherapy? Ecotherapy is a form of counselling that takes place outdoors, combining therapeutic conversation with the restorative benefits of nature to support emotional wellbeing.
Do I need to be physically fit to do ecotherapy? No. Ecotherapy options include both Walk & Talk Therapy and seated Therapy in the Park. Sessions are adapted to your mobility and comfort level.
Is ecotherapy as effective as indoor counselling? Yes. Ecotherapy offers the same professional therapeutic support as indoor counselling, with added benefits from being in nature.
Where does ecotherapy take place? Ecotherapy sessions are offered in Perth’s northern suburbs, in local parks and natural spaces selected for privacy and comfort.
Can ecotherapy be combined with other counselling approaches? Yes. Ecotherapy can be integrated alongside individual counselling, trauma-informed therapy, and other therapeutic approaches depending on your needs.
Is ecotherapy confidential? Yes. Ecotherapy sessions are confidential. Everything you share is kept private, unless disclosure is required by law (for example, if records are subpoenaed) or if there are serious concerns about your safety or the safety of others.
How do I get ready for an ecotherapy session? There is very little you need to do to prepare. Wear comfortable clothing, bring suitable shoes for walking, and anything that helps you feel at ease outdoors, such as water, a hat, or sunscreen. Ecotherapy is gentle and flexible. There is no pressure to talk continuously or to walk at a certain pace, we simply follow what feels right for you in the moment, allowing space to slow down, breathe, and settle into the experience.
What happens if the weather is not suitable? If the weather is not supportive of an outdoor session, we simply adjust the plan, either by rescheduling or moving the session to an indoor setting, depending on what feels best for you. Your comfort, safety, and sense of ease remain the priority, and we will always choose the option that supports the therapeutic process.
